Hi,
I am a 13 year old, 5ft 1' teen who weigh's 53 kgs. In regard to physical excercise I dance hard about 8 hours a week but other than that don't have time for much more physical activity. Problem is I love everything fattening. Tried to do no carbs like my mom does, but only manage a few days. Please give me suggestions of yummy snack options if they exist!

Hello Mavika,
I am going to try and help you understand where you may be going wrong. but, the effort to get into those clothes you want to will have to come from you.

Let's begin with avoiding extreme diets like no carbs. It's unhealthy for you as a growing teenager. Perhaps my suggestions on the following snacks will get you started on understanding that you always have a choice, so try and choose right most of the time.

When you are in the mood for something sweet, you can have one serving of:
1. A low-fat milk or yogurt fruit smoothie
2. A fistful of raisins and almonds
3.Sweet nimboo pani,
4. A chilled fruit salad with jelly or custard
5. Low calorie chocolate pudding (if available)
6. Chocolate mousse made with fat-free milk
7. Date and walnut pudding
8. Bananas dipped in Rice Crispies cereal.
9. A Bengali sweet like sandesh or rasgolla (squeeze out the syrup)
10. Skim milk cold coffee.

When you are in the mood for something salty:
1. Whole grain toast with a thin slice of low fat cheese & juicy ripe tomatoes (sprinkle on oregano and paprika)
2. Bulgur made spicy
3. Tomato, garlic and white bean soup
4. Non-fried puffed rice roasted with almonds and raisins.
5. Hot and spicy kabuli chana masala
6. Roasted chana with chilli powder sprinkles
7. Roasted corn with lemon juice and black salt and pepper.
8. Crunchy garden salad, with your fav vegetables, and oil & vinegar dressing.
9. Vegetable cutlets (sauteed not deep-fried)
10. Steamed peas in pods with sea salt.

Enjoy.

My only advice to you is...remember if you eat two servings, it counts as twice the number of calories, so aim for half a serving at a time, and stop when you have finished one full serving.
Good Luck,
Sincerely,
Mrs. Iyengar.
