What should we have for healthy kidneys

Hello Pborah,
I am impressed a 15 year old is interested in good nutrition for healthy kidneys. Good for you!
Our kidneys serve an important function of removing waste and toxins from our body and regulating the blood sugar. Think of your kidneys as a purifying RO filter for the blood in your body. At home when the RO water filter system gets clogged up, water stops flowing through it, similarly your kidneys need to be kept flushing well.

This is best done through three things:
1. Good Nutrition/ maintaining a healthy weight.
2. Keeping active through sports and exercise
3. Drinking plenty of water, to keep the filter clean.

So, Nutrition should be a no-brainer for you, as you seem to be looking out for your kidneys already.
1. Good Nutrition:
- Eat plenty of fruits and Vegetables
- Get sufficient protein (fish, chicken if you’re a non-veg,
dals if you’re a vegetarian)
- Whole grain chappatis are better than naan, pooris,
parathas and other fried stuff.
2. Exercise – there is no reason for you not to enjoy the outdoors. Breathe in fresh air to energize your blood circulation through a minimum of one hour of vigorous activity each day. Your body also gets to soak in some Vitamin D from the sun as well.
3. Drink plenty of water at least 8-10 glasses per day and even more during the hot, sweaty summer months. Good old plain water is best.

Try and follow these tips, and you will have a mighty strong filtration system in your body for a long time to come.

Sincerely,
Ms Viji Iyengar
