There are three stages in life when women are prone to gaining weight: adolescence, pregnancy & menopause.
The period between 40 - 60 years is known as midlife. This is the period when many women tend to put on a great deal of weight. It could be due to loss of muscle mass, hormonal changes, incorrect diet or lack of physical activity. Typically women gain one pound per year during midlife.
It is a well known fact that diet & physical activity are the cornerstones of any weight-control program. Physical activity increases, or at least preserves muscle mass & increases energy expenditure. Physical activity also reduces the risk of chronic lifestyle diseases. Results depend upon both the amount & intensity of activity.
