A survey by NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey-US) showed that Coronary Heart Disease is aggravated by continual exposure to noise an occupational hazard, and especially in smokers
Results on a 5-year (1999-2004) study on noise pollution, conducted on 6000 plus subjects, was published in the journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Around a third of males, who had reported that they were chronically exposed to a noise of high decibels at work, were two-three times more susceptible to pain or angina pectoris, MI (myocardial ischemia/ infarction) and isolated diastolic hypertension as against those who are never exposed to loud noise at work. The common denominators for these subjects were that they were all approximately 50 years of age and smokers. However a connection between noise exposure and blood lipid levels or circulatory inflammatory mediators was not seen.
