Study and Findings
Data was pooled from 91,000 patients who were randomly assigned to be treated with either statin or sugar pills. It was found that -
- The risk of developing diabetes was one in 255 patients.
- The milder statins like Pravachol and Mevacor do not carry a clear cut risk
- The more potent ones like, Zocor, Crestor and Lipitor especially at higher doses increased the risk of diabetes substantially.
- There was a direct correlation between dose and risk.
