Breathing exercises that are helpful for the digestive system are:
- Agnisar – Inhaling and exhaling with rhythmic stomach contractions
- Kapalbhati – Inhale and exhale using diaphragm and the muscles of the abdomen.
- Bhastrika – Rapid inhaling and exhaling (hissing) - with final long release of air exhaled out.
- Sitkari – Inhaled hissing through clenched teeth, normal exhaling through nostrils.
- Shitali – Inhaling & exhaling through a rolled tongue for cooling sensation.
- Plavini - Deep, gentle, smooth and long inhale and exhale while lying on back
- Surya bhedan – Deep breaths while seated, while intermittently closing one nostril.
Regular practice of yoga along with a balanced healthy diet can produce amazing results on a disturbed digestive system.
