"A" stands for the hemoglobin A1c (A1C) blood test and is a reminder to patients and family members of the importance of maintaining stable blood glucose levels to prevent complications of diabetes. The A1C test can be administered at least two times a year for those patients who meet their treatment goals and who have stabilized glycemic levels. Those not meeting treatment levels may need the test every 3-4 months.
