Q.1. Do all diabetics require Insulin therapy?
No! Not all diabetics require Insulin therapy. Type I or Juvenile Diabetes definitely requires insulin shots throughout their life because their body is not manufacturing insulin necessary to utilize glucose for energy. In Type II or Adult Diabetes the body does not produce either sufficient insulin or is not used efficiently and thus oral drugs may be required, combined with a good diet plan and altered lifestyle. A judicious use of insulin therapy is desired for optimal management during acute illness or surgery, pregnancy, glucose toxicity, contraindications or failure to achieve goals with oral anti-diabetic medications. Again, the type, amount and frequency of insulin needed depends on the individual.
