Symptoms of Gout
The symptoms of gout are almost always acute and often occur in the middle of the night.
- Severe joint pain- usually in the big toe, but is also common in the feet, ankles, knees, hands and wrists.
- While the pain is most severe 12-24 hours after the attack begins, it may last for several days. Overtime the attacks last longer and affect more joints.
- When the person has had the disease for years he/she may develop tophi, which are lumps below the skin around the joints or in other places.
