The first group was given low glycaemic index foods in their diet daily. The second group was given high glycaemic index foods. There was a 500 calorie reduction in both groups. They consumed five to seven servings of potatoes each week.
Participants of the third group i.e. "control group" were permitted to choose their meals and caloric intake on their own. They were encouraged to follow the U.S. dietary guidelines and the food guide pyramid. They too had to include five to seven servings of potatoes each week
