Federal regulators have been mandating food manufacturers to develop labels for the front of the food packages, which will specify boldly and simply the amount of calories, unhealthy fats and sodium with reference to an individual’s daily nutritional needs.
The Grocery Manufacturers Association which embodies more than 300 large scale food, beverage and consumer product companies, has agreed to work on this type of labeling system along with the Food Marketing Institute, to be able to print them on the packages by early next year.
The VP of the manufacturers association, Mr Scott Faber, said, “We’ve committed today to put nutrients `to limit’ on the front of our packages,” but has not committed on keeping off the nutrients that food companies would like to boast on their packaging like the vitamins and fiber.
