Symptoms:
The time period for the symptoms to show up, vary from as little as two hours to even a couple of days after consuming the food. They can range from simple abdominal discomfort to near life--threatening conditions depending on the type of bacteria. Symptoms could be -
- Abdominal cramps
- Diarrhea which can even be bloody
- Fever with chills
- Headache
- weakness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Respiratory arrest
- Dehydration
If not attended to one condition could lead to another and may get fatal or near fatal
Causative Agents:
The bacteria that cause food poisoning are botulinum, campylobacter, E-Coli, Listeria, staphylococcus, salmonella, Shilgella etc.
Infants, young children and senior citizens are at a higher risk for food poisoning due to their vulnerability and weaker immune system. The risk further increases if there is a serious medical condition like diabetes, kidney disease etc. Pregnant and lactating women have to take extra care and avoid food poisoning.
