Dancing – The new trends in dancing are salsa, samba, lindy hop, rhumba, east coast swing; tango etc, the moves of these dance forms use the hips to get the heart pumping and in turn help build strong bones.
Hiking: Hiking up hill or downhill improves bone strength. Bone density is increased in the hips by the impact of the feet hitting the ground. It is fun and exciting to meet new people while hiking together.
Racquet Sports: Every time one hits the ball, the arm using the racquet, the wrist and the shoulder is stressed which in turn increases the bone density. Also, while moving around, the hips and spines are working too. Tennis, squash and paddle tennis should be practiced for better bone health.
Strength Training: To stimulate bone density, indulge in strength or resistance training twice a week. Using free weights, calisthenics and weight lifting are forms of strengthening exercises. Practice under guidance to stress the mus cles and bones in a sequence. Target your legs, back, shoulders and arms, but do not over do it.
