Conclusion
Although larger studies on hypertensives are needed to confirm the findings of this study, it adds to the list of the health benefits of beetroot and other nitrate containing vegetables. As rightly said by Prof. Amrita Ahluwalia, lead author of the study "Our research suggests that drinking beetroot juice, or consuming nitrate rich vegetables, might be a simple way to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system, and might also be an additional approach that one could take in the modern day battle against rising blood pressure."
Till further studies are able to confirm the results of this study, physicians and dietitians must continue to encourage hypertensive patients to increase their consumption of fruits and vegetables.
