Here are a few quotes from Sam, on how he is cool with his diabetes. As Sam says offhandedly- "It is much easier to follow a good eating plan during the week because everything is much more routine. But other times, like on the weekends when I am out with my friends, it is more challenging. If I do overeat or eat a food whose carbohydrate content I am unsure of, then I try to monitor my blood sugar more often. "He knows when to say "No" to food, specially those that will make his blood sugar go nuts on him. That is the best thing he has learned to say and respect since his diagnosis.
He goes on to muse, "It is also good to talk about it with my friends. If they understand my challenges, sometimes they will choose to eat more healthfully so I don't feel left out or tempted. I find it is helpful when I communicate with my friends."
