Some of the other important aspects are:
- Maintaining a good posture
- Preventing falls
- Eating a balanced diet with at least 1,200 mg of calcium and approx 2,000 IU of Vitamin D everyday.
- Quitting smoking since it increases bone loss
- Avoiding excessive alcohol- consuming more than 2 alcoholic drinks a day may decrease bone formation.
- Exposure to sunlight in safe doses
Prevention is of course better than cure. Eating a balanced diet with special emphasis on foods rich in calcium, phosphorous, and vitamin D. In addition, maintaining a regular exercise program as approved by your physician goes a long way in keeping bones strong and healthy.
